What is the CSIR Young Scientist Award?
“CSIR Young Scientist Awards” was introduced in 1987 by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). This is an awards scheme for Young Scientists in the CSIR to promote excellence in various fields of science and technology.
The CSIR Young Scientist Awards will be presented to the recipients on 26 September, the CSIR Foundation Day every year.
Main Purpose
The main purpose of this award is to promote excellence and recognise outstanding contributions made by the young CSIR scientists by their work done basically in India since the last five years.
Field of Science & Technology
This award is given annually in the following fields:
- Biological Sciences
- Chemical Sciences
- Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences
- Engineering Sciences
- Physical Sciences (including instrumentation)
Main Features
This award consists of a citation, cash prize of Rs.50000/- (Rupees fifty thousand only), and a plaque. Also, Awardees will get Rs 7500/- (Rupees seven thousand five hundred) per month till the age of 45 years as a Special Honorarium. But, a notable point is that this incentive shall be admissible as long as the recipient remains in the service of CSIR.
For research and development, there is a research grant for every Young Scientist Awardee, which is Rs 25 lakh (Rupees twenty five lakh) over a period of five years, as a tune of Rs 5 lakh per annum per CSIR Young Scientist Awardee.
ELIGIBILITY
Any research scientist who is working in any of the CSIR laboratories/institutes and who does not complete 35 years of age, is eligible for this award. The nominee should be a regular scientific staff of the CSIR and should have joined the CSIR on or before 26 September of the previous year. Each nominee is required to give a brief presentation about his/her research work before the Advisory Committee.
Thus, we can say that this is a good award scheme for encouraging young scientists and recognise their research work.
