What is the Patent Agent Exam ?

Government of India conducted the Patent Agent Exam for the selection of individuals as Registered Patent Agents. After qualifying this examination, someone can start their career as Patent Agents. There is a lot of demand for Patent Agents in different firms such as law firms, IP Firms, and in some International companies working in Patents domain, especially.
In India, this examination is conducted by the Office of The Controller General of Patents, Designs & TradeMarks, The Indian Patents Office, Government of India.

Eligibility criteria to appear in Patent Agent Exam

Any individual with Indian nationality, having graduation in science, Pharmacy, Engineering, and Technology background and acquiring the minimum age of 21 year is eligible for this examination. So that we can say, candidates having BSc, MSc, B. Pharma, M. Pharma, BE, ME, B.Tech, M.Tech, PhD, and MBBS, etc., degrees are eligible for this exam.
Final year students of their courses are also eligible for this examination, but they have to produce a final degree certificate, mark sheets, etc., within the two months of declaration of the Patent Agent Exam result.

Structure of Examination
Paper-I (Objective type questions, Duration:Two hours)

Shalinisharma Salaries of a patent agent vary depending upon his/he experience, skills, and also where he/she is working. Further, the salary may also depend on the type of work he/she is assigned. Salary of patent agent in India varies from 3.0 lakh per annum to even 15 lakh per annum.
For a beginner who has a really good understanding of the Patents Act, a salary may start from 25K onwards in a law firm and continues to increase reasonably good as his experience increases.

For a patent agent working in a corporate and who is a beginner, it may start from 35K onwards. For an independent Patent Agent, of course, his remuneration will be based on the number of clients being served and the kinds of services offered.

For an experienced patent professional, his salary would most likely be 1 Lakh Plus.
