The Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, conducts the National Achievement Survey (NAS), which is the representation of a large-scale survey of students’ learning nationally. The National Achievement Survey (NAS) provides a framework evaluation on the effectiveness of school learning. The findings aid in comparing performance throughout the span and among populations in order to determine the best path for improvement.
The objective of this survey
The goal of NAS 2021 is to offer data on what India’s kids know and can do in key grades and subjects at the national, state, district, and school levels.
Important Characteristics of NAS
- The Assessment Framework was designed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to assess students’ competencies in relation to learning outcomes.
- The survey extends beyond the scorecard to include background characteristics that can be used to correlate student performance in various learning outcomes with external factors.
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will serve as the Assessment Administrator for students in Grades 3, 5, 8, and 10 from State Government schools, Government Aided schools, Private Unaided Recognized Schools, and Central Government schools.
- In the sampled schools, the survey will be carried out in a systematic environment. The sampling design for NAS is intended to meet the national assessment’s established and agreed-upon objectives.
Application of NAS
- The findings of the NAS will assist in detecting student learning gaps and determining the solutions that are required in educational policy, teaching techniques, and learning. The findings of the NAS, which are presented in the form of diagnostic report cards, help in the capacity building of teachers and administrators involved in the delivery of education.
- Under the general leadership of the Ministry of Education, The Government of India, NIC created the portal which serves as a dynamic platform for conducting this survey.
- This portal is made in cooperation with NCERT, CBSE, UNICEF, DDG (Stats), and NITI Aayog.
- This portal would be a long-term educational management information system that will support in the smooth running of NAS as well as data-driven decision-making.
- The site has role-based capabilities and a panel for managing resources (different functionaries participating in the conduct and administration of NAS), activity and event monitoring, capacity building, reporting and documentation, and post-NAS analytical report in customised forms.
