Both the NET and SET exams are conducted to screen eligible candidates for the assistant professor or lecturer posts. NET and SET exams are very important for those who are aspiring to become professors in future.
The full form of NET is National Eligibility Test and SET stands for State Eligibility Test. The first exam is a national level exam, and the latter is a state level exam. The purpose of bohe the exams is the same.

NET

National Eligibility Test or NET is conducted by the national body. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts UGC NET or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. CISR NET exam also conducted by NTA. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts ICAR NET or Indian Council of Agriculture Research National Eligibility Test . All these exams are conducted at the national level. UGC NET and CISR NET are conducted twice a year, while ASRB NET is conducted only once.

SET

State Eligibility Tests or SET are conducted at the state level. Various state controlled bodies are responsible for conducting these exams. SET is conducted once a year. The purpose of this exam is the same as NET. However, SET qualified candidates can apply for the assistant professor or lecturer posts in that state.

Eligibility Criteria

Master’s degree in any of the UGC NET subjects) with 55% (for General Candidates) or 50% (for ST/SC/PWD/OBC/ Transgenders) marks.Master’s degree with a minimum 55% (for General Candidates) or 50% (for ST/SC/PWD/OBC/) marks from the recognized university.Master’s degree or equivalent in the same discipline for which the candidate will apply.Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in their Master’s Degree and belong to any UGC accredited Universities/Institutions are eligible for the test.
