The Judge Advocate General (JAG) Department is the legal arm of the Indian Naval Service. A Judge Advocate is appointed under Section 168 of the Navy Act, 1957 and is deemed to be a Judicial Officer. The primary role of a JAG officer is to deliver independent,operationally-focused, solution-oriented legal advice and services across the full spectrum of naval law towards supporting naval operations and a sound naval administration. The JAG Department is the cornerstone of the law of the Indian Navy, professionally contributing to a disciplined force, with targeted legal solutions in the performance of legal and judicial duties.

Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in LLB Degree (three years professional after graduation or five years after 10+2 examination).
The candidates should be eligible for registration as an advocate with the Bar Council of India/State. The candidate should be from a College/University recognised by the Bar Council of India.
A candidate must either be:
(i) A citizen of India, or
(ii) A subject of Nepal,
(iii) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A certificate of eligibility will, however, not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

How to apply?
Candidates who believe they are eligible and eager to serve as Judge Advocate General in the Indian Army should follow the processes outlined below to apply successfully:
Step 1: Go to the JAG 28 registration page on the official website: https://www.joinindiannavy.gov.in/en/page/law.html
Step 2: If they are first-time users, they must register or log in using their existing credentials.
Step 3: If you’re a new user, go to the bottom of the page and click the Registration button.
Step 4: Upon reaching the registration page, the candidate needs to read all the instructions and then hit the continue button. Post this, the registration page will open wherein the candidate has to enter all the info asked i.e. Aadhaar Number, Candidate’s Name, Parent’s Name, Date of Birth, Email Id, and Mobile Number, then click on the Submit button and proceed further.
Step 5: Next, the candidates have to click on Apply Online button and fill the JAG 28 application form with all the relevant details i.e. Board of Class 10th, Highest Qualification, Enrolment number, etc.
Step 6: In the end, the candidates have to tick on the I agree the checkbox at the bottom of the page and click on the final save.
Step 7: Download and print the final application for future reference and records.
Documents Required for Application Form
Filling the Indian Army JAG 28 Entry application form is very easy, however, the candidates while filling the same have to keep certain documents handy. It is very vital that every piece of information that goes in the application form is correct hence, keeping these documents is very important.
Aadhaar Card/Pan Card
10th Class Certificate & Marksheet.
12th Class Certificate & Marksheet.
Graduation Degree/Provisional Degree (in case of three years LLB after graduation).
LLB Degree/Provisional Degree.
Marks sheets of all years/Semesters.
Registration with Bar Council of India/State OR Certificate from college / University that the LLB Course in the said institution is recognized by Bar Council of India.
Certificate issued by the University regarding formulae for conversion of CGPA/Grades into marks followed by the University
The list of documents mentioned above has to be carried by the candidates while going for the SSB Interview round. Another thing that has to be kept in mind is that the documents carried for the JAG 28 SSB Interview round should be self-attested by the candidates.
