IIT Madras has launched an interdisciplinary dual degree programme in Electric Vehicles in order to develop the trained workforce required to serve the increasing electric vehicle (EV) sector. The programme is now open to Institute students, and registration for the course is set to begin soon.
Students enrolled in BTech, except Bio-Science, and dual degree programmes at IIT Madras, who are in their third year of study, are eligible to apply for the programme.“ Shortlisted students will enrol in a five-year dual degree programme, after which they will receive a BTech in their core Engineering discipline and an MTech in Electric Vehicles,” as stated by CS Shankar Ram, professor of IIT Madras’ Department of Engineering Design.
Students will get various opportunities under this course will learn the fundamentals of electric vehicle engineering and will eventually explore electives in areas of their choice." “They’d do a project in this area as well,” Ram adds. Vehicle dynamics, electrified cars, power electronics, and battery technologies, among other topics, are covered in the course. Candidates can work as design engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, and service engineers, among other positions in the industry.
