UDAAN (A Programme To Give Wings To Girl Students)
About this project
- The CBSE has launched a project to provide free online resources to girl students in Class XI and Class XII for preparation of admission tests for the country’s premier engineering colleges, to address the teaching gap between school education and engineering entrance as well as to enrich the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics at the school level.
- The main emphasis of this project Udaan is to address the low enrolment ratio of female students in these famous schools and to provide specific incentives and support to female students so that they can attend these institutions and eventually occupy leadership roles.
- The goal of this project is to empower female students to pursue further education and eventually take on various leadership responsibilities in the future.
- The programme intends to address the low number of female students enrolled in engineering colleges. The goal is to enrich and enhance Science and Mathematics teaching and learning at the Senior Secondary level by making free and online resources available to everyone, with a focus on offering particular incentives and support to 1000 disadvantaged girls each year.
Important Features Of UDAAN
- Mentoring programme for 1000 selected female students competing for admission to top engineering colleges
- Students are chosen on the basis of merit and other factors.
- The course is available in both online and offline formats and is completely free.
- Tutorials, seminars, and study materials for IIT JEE preparation will be available online and on tablets distributed to students.
- A comprehensive evaluation system will lead to the collection of reward points.
- Financial support in the form of reward points that can be used to pay for tuition at IITs and NITs.
- To help students learn more effectively, there is a student helpline.
- Periodic motivational counselling for students and parents
Eligibility Criteria
Only Indian citizens are eligible for the programme. All girl students in classes XI and XII in any Board in India are eligible to apply if they meet the following conditions. Students will be chosen on the basis of their abilities.
- Students in the PCM stream who are currently in Class XI and XII.
- Minimum of 70% overall in Class X and 80% in Science and Mathematics; for Boards that use CGPA, a minimum CGPA of 8 and a GPA of 9 in Science and Mathematics are required.
- A minimum of 75% in PCM in Class XI, in addition to the Class X standards, is required for Class XII students.
- Selection will be made on the basis of merit, with a preference for female students from economically disadvantaged sections of the society.
