The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, will launch an interdisciplinary dual degree programme in electric vehicles.
Students who complete this programme will be prepared to pursue careers in EV Product Development, including EV Integration, Vehicle Aggregate Engineering, Communication and Calibration, Verification and Validation, as well as Product and Portfolio Planning.
This Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) will increase students’ participation in e-Mobility and will be available to BTech and Dual Degree students. This effort will improve the field’s research capability. A total of 25 students are scheduled to enroll in the first year.
IIT Madras allows undergraduate students to upgrade to IDDD programmes, where they will study for five years and receive a BTech in a parent field and an MTech in an interdisciplinary area.
The goal is to provide students more freedom by allowing them to take courses from other disciplines and develop skills in current multidisciplinary areas that will shape the future of engineering and technology.
IIT-M has been at the forefront of developing e-Mobility capabilities in the country through its various centers and programmes, including the Center for Battery Engineering and Electric Vehicles (CBEEV), as well as incubating a slew of e-Mobility startups through the IIT Madras Incubation Cell over the years.
