How scholarship schemes are boosting education among girls
The government has taken numerous steps to encourage girls to continue their education, one of which is a scholarship.
In 2003-04, the Maulana Azad Education Foundation, which is part of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, established the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship for female students from minority populations.
The Foundation’s initiative gives financial aid to deserving female students from the Jain, Muslim, Parsi, Sikh, Christian, and Buddhist groups who are unable to complete their study owing to a lack of resources.
The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is the scholarship’s implementing agency.
Selection procedure
Students are chosen based on their qualifying test percentage and their parent’s or guardian’s yearly income, which should not exceed Rs 2 lakh. Beneficiaries must reapply for each class in order to receive the scholarship. There is a possibility of renewal.
Aside from the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship, the CBSE offers a Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Children.
The number of CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme awards may vary from year to year and will be given to all qualified applicants who received 60% or above in the CBSE class X exams that year.
The plan provides monthly payments of Rs 500 for a maximum of two years.
