From the following academic year, all government schools in Telangana will be English medium.
From the academic year 2022-23, the Telangana cabinet has decided to introduce English as a medium of instruction in all government schools in the state, as well as regulate fees in private schools, junior and degree colleges.
An official announcement stated that a decision to this effect was made during a meeting held on Monday. To analyze and establish recommendations on the concerns, the cabinet has formed a subcommittee of ministers led by Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy.
Parents in rural villages are willing to send their children to government schools provided the language of teaching is English, according to the cabinet. As a result, the cabinet agreed to use English as the primary language of instruction in government schools and to build infrastructure to support it," according to the press release.
The government has resolved to develop an action plan to educate instructors to provide English instruction to primary school pupils, to make the school atmosphere appealing to children, to maintain the premises clean and tidy, and to enhance the mid-day food programme.
