Character certificate
A character certificate, sometimes known as a police certificate, is a document provided by a government body, the police, or another institution to an individual certifying that the latter has no criminal convictions or poor records from prior institutions.
This certificate is required whether a person wants to study abroad, apply for government employment, or any other private job. The paper essentially serves as a background check on the individual.
Use of Character certificates
New companies ask candidates to provide a character certificate from their prior employers when applying for a job. This is frequently done to evaluate the employee’s performance at their prior employer.
Academics - Former students are also given character certificates by academic institutions. The certificate explains that the student’s behaviour was determined to be satisfactory, and that they followed all of the institution’s rules and regulations. Applicants for several scholarships must additionally provide character certifications.
Business - A character certificate for business assures that the person will behave himself or herself in a professional manner.
Immigration/travel - A character certificate is frequently provided by the police for immigration purposes.
