Army schools will no longer teach regional languages.
Regional languages will not be taught at Army Public Schools across the country, according to the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). In this regard, instructions have been provided.
The AWES has claimed that “teaching a regional language is not realistic,” and that in order to standardize the system, only English, Hindi, and Sanskrit would be taught in the schools. It also states that pupils in Classes IX to XII can enroll for regional languages, but that the school would not offer a teacher for them.
“It is not that students would not be able to opt for regional languages,” AWES Additional Director (Academics) Dr. RS Panwar stated. It all boils down to resource availability. A kid may choose a regional language, but we will not have a teacher to teach it. We’d like to have a common set of languages that we can use in our classrooms." The directives, according to Dr. Panwar, would apply to 156 Army schools around the country.
