Provisional certificate valid till degree is issued -HC to Delhi University
The Delhi High Court has declared that a temporary certificate provided by a university remains valid till a degree is issued, while criticizing Delhi University (DU) for rejecting admission to a student from the Scheduled Tribe category on the basis of a provisional certificate.
Because the candidate had a valid temporary certificate given by Uttarakhand’s Garhwal University, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva ordered DU to accept him to the law programme, noting that denying him entrance was “not sustainable.”
“Because the provisional certificate does not have an expiration date, it will stay valid until the institution issues a degree,” the court stated, adding that “the granting of a provisional certificate is confirmation that a degree has not yet been given by the university.”
