About STARS
It is a programme for promoting translational, India-centric research in Sciences.
It is implemented and managed by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
Its key objective is to promote socially relevant research.
The following 6 basic thrust areas have been identified:
- Physical Sciences
- Chemical Sciences
- Biological Sciences
- Nanosciences
- Data Science and Mathematics
- Earth Sciences
Major Objectives
- Through a competitive process that is open and transparent, to fund translational research initiatives that have direct repercussions for the country’s progress.
- The basic idea would be to assess a current problem and go backwards to do research for a solution.
- Promoting an inter-disciplinary and translational research method for improved synergy, de-duplication, and comprehensiveness and relevance of research.
- Orient science toward addressing the country’s needs and concerns in critical sectors such as health, agriculture, energy, the environment, and security, among others.
