About

The Gender Atlas is based on existing data and highlights problem regions so that action priorities can be identified. It is viewed as a management tool that can focus on both the ‘demand’ and’supply’ sides of issues that affect girls’ education.
The Digital Gender Atlas is a project of the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Department of School Education and Literacy, with UNICEF sponsorship.

Objectives

  • To identify low performing geographic pockets for girls, particularly from marginalised groups such as scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and Muslim minorities, on specific gender related education indicators.
  • To ensure equitable education with a focus on vulnerable girls, including girls with disabilities, the Gender Atlas has been developed as a hands on management tool to enable critical decisions and action in pockets where performances are below par.

    Meghaadhikari

    • The Atlas’ architecture allows for dynamic navigation between geographical representation and numeric data that shows the status of critical factors for girls’ education at the primary, upper primary, and secondary levels at the state, district, and block levels. As a result, when you change the Search/Geo Search Tabs, the maps on the screen change as well.
    • At the national, state, district, and block levels, the Atlas presents a comparative composite index based on quartile ranking of gender-related indicators.
    • The Atlas allows for trend analysis and tracking of individual gender-related parameter performance across time.
    • The Atlas is based on an open source platform with the ability to update data by authorised users, allowing it to maintain its dynamic nature.
