Bushra Ateeq, a professor at IIT Kanpur, has been awarded the Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Award-2021 in the category of Medical Sciences-Basic Research. The reward includes a trophy, a citation, and a monetary prize.
Previously, the assistant professor at the Department of Biological Sciences and Bio Engineering (BSBE) received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Medical Sciences (2020).
Ateeq’s study focuses on the genetic and epigenetic alterations that lead to cancer initiation and development. She’s also interested in the molecular mechanisms that lead to cancer metastasis and chemotherapeutic drug resistance. Ateeq and her team also hold the distinction of evaluating nearly 121 prostate cancer tissue samples in India for the first time and detecting numerous major genetic changes.
