IIT Delhi startup develops advanced fabric for monumental National Flags
SWATRIC, an IIT Delhi company, has created numerous sophisticated fabric constructions for the Tiranga, or national flags. The researchers were able to increase the fabric’s strength by 100 percent on a lab scale.
Last year, SWATRIC and the Flag Foundation of India (FFI) teamed up to find the optimum fabric design and structure for India’s gigantic national flags, taking into account the country’s varied climatic and geographical circumstances.
The FFI has already put two separate prototypes of the gigantic National Flag on the field, one in Delhi and the other in Ladakh, using the sophisticated fabric created by an IIT Delhi company.
The goal is to develop the colossal flag material tough enough to withstand adverse weather without becoming too heavy. Prof. Bipin Kumar, Textile and Fibre Engineering Dept., IIT Delhi, and Mentor, SWATRIC, stated, “We’re also shipping 10 distinct prototypes to different sites throughout the nation for installation next month.”
