IIT Gandhinagar develops environment-friendly water desalination technique
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar have devised a cost-effective and environmentally friendly water desalination system that removes over 99 percent of salt ions and other contaminants from salt water using natural processing.
The natural uptake of water by trees utilizing the capillary effect sparked and guided the investigation.
In addition, the team can help with filter design for gas purification, proton exchange in fuel cells, chemical separation, and precious metal recovery from waste, among other things.
The team is now employing this technology to produce a direct point-of-use water filter that will be affordable to the general public.
