M Jagadesh Kumar, vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), has been named chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC), according to a senior source from the Union Ministry of Education.
While no notice of Kumar’s appointment had been posted on the ministry of education’s website at the time this article was reported, a ministry official confirmed Kumar had been appointed as the UGC chief for a five-year term.
“The Central government has appointed M Jagadesh Kumar as Chairman of the University Grants Commission for a period of five years or till he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first,” an official told PTI.
