I would like to first assert that I belong to an UR category. It’s one of the most debated topic in India. So here are my observations and views about this. When I read about the history of it, they have mentioned that the reservation system in India is the result of India’s deeply established caste structure. I totally agree with this. When the caste system was established, the skin colour of the person was primarily considered, with the lighter ones being Brahmins or upper caste and the darker ones being Shudras or lower caste. This resulted in utter division in our culture, and to address this, the concept of reservation was developed after independence. As a result, a quota for backward classes was established in 1950, and many more quotas and restrictions were introduced throughout time.
But what kind of form it’s taking in these times? Even after so many decades of independence, the situation of India’s so-called impoverished portions have not been changed up to a degree it should have been up to. Now reservation is acting in the opposite direction of its primary goal, further dividing society. It’s being used to help one group of people at the expense of another, which is pathetic and unfortunate!!. Instead, everyone should have the same level, degree and magnitude of opportunities. Isn’t it?? Furthermore, I don’t think a talented candidate require a certificate proving their descent from a lower caste to prove their worth. His brains, education, and capacity to compete are the only things that can make a difference in his life. Taking a seat only on the basis of our underprivileged certificate will not provide us with anything other than a degree or a job. We must think!!!
