• Sugamya Pustakalaya is an online library featuring books for those who are blind, have low vision, or have any other type of print disability.
  • The library has publications in a variety of disciplines and languages, as well as in a variety of forms.
  • It was developed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) in partnership with Daisy Forum of India (DFI) member organisations and is powered by TCS Access.

Benefits

  • When a person with Print Disability needs to read a book, he or she can save the time-consuming task of finding volunteers to read it to him or scanning and editing it. With a fast search on the Sugamya Pustakalaya, he may find the book he wants at the touch of a button. To download the book or obtain it offline through their member organisation, he must be a registered print-disabled member of one of the member DFI organisations. He can read the articles on any device he wants, including smartphones, tablets, PCs, DAISY players, and even refreshable braille displays. He could also request a braille copy from one of the member organisations with a Braille press.

  • Universities, school libraries, public libraries, and other institutions can join DFI or subscribe to the online library to make the Sugamya Pustakalaya’s whole collection available to their members or students with print disabilities. Educational institutions can also submit accessible format books created for their students so that students from other educational institutions can access them as well, avoiding duplication of work.
