MNREGA, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, is the first in the world to guarantee wages in exchange for manual labour on such a large scale. The Act was implemented in three phases, with the first phase launching in 200 of the country’s poorest areas. Another 130 districts had been added by 2007-08, and by April 2008, all of the remaining districts had been added.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) went into effect on February 2, 2006, with the goal of providing livelihood security, social protection, and democratic growth to each household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual labour for at least one hundred days per financial year.
MNREGA was discovered to cover all underprivileged elements of rural society, regardless of castes, genders, or socioeconomic classes. It was also discovered that this approach increased rural people’ income and savings.
This is some of my observations as it’s impacts:
a) According to the statistics I went through , MNREGA has raised the economy’s real GDP, as well as household income and real consumption budget. In compared to the wealthier households, the increase in household income is higher for the bottom 1/5th classes.
b) Overall, the initiative reduced poverty by 32% and saved 14 million people from sliding into poverty. Women’s participation in states like Rajasthan, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh has been fostered by self-help groups and civil society organisations, according o the data I saw.

a) Gives adults in rural homes who are willing to conduct unskilled manual labour a legal guarantee of pay employment for a maximum of 100 days per household.
b) Every rural household has the right to register under the MGNREGA, which is applicable to all villages in the district.
c) Every household registered under MGNREGA receives a job card, which is issued within 15 days of the date of acceptance of the application for the job card registration. Registered job card holders can apply for jobs in groups or individually.
d) To sanction a new job under MGNREGA, a minimum of ten job seekers must apply.
e) Employment is supplied by authorising one of the works on the “Shelf of Works” that the village community has picked and prioritised within 15 days of receiving applications for MGNREGA employment.
f) The village community has the right to select works from among eight permissible kinds of work. A “Shelf of Works” will be chosen by the village community for a period of five years and can be undertaken in their villages based on employment demand and person days.
