Ban on the practice of saying ‘Sir’ and ‘Madam’ in Kerala school
Students at a school in Kerala’s Palakkad district have been instructed to address teachers as ‘teacher’ rather than sir or madam.' The government-aided Senior Basic School in Palakkad district’s Olassery village has become the state’s first school to implement gender equality.
A panchayat outside of the school is making similar measures, according to the headmaster. The Mathur panchayat resolved to end the use of Sir and Madam in July of last year. The Panchayat personnel was to be addressed by their designation, according to this governing body. According to Venugopalan, the panchayat’s decision had a significant impact on the institution.
