In India, there has always been a regular effort in women’s empowerment and women’s education. There are several schemes and scholarship that has been launched in the past and we know little about them. Here is one of them which was launched a long ago but we know a little about it.
The Mahila Samakhya program was launched in 1988 to pursue the objectives of the National Policy on Education, 1986. It recognized that education can be an effective tool for women’s empowerment.
The aim of the scheme was:
- enhancing self-esteem and self-confidence of women;
- building a positive image of women by recognizing their contribution to the society, polity, and the economy;
- developing ability to think critically;
- fostering decision making and action through collective processes;
- enabling women to make informed choices in areas like education, employment, and health (especially reproductive health);
- ensuring equal participation in developmental processes;
These are some information that I found with a little research, if you have something like this you can share it here.
