Women in India face several challenges in moving up the academic and administrative ladder due to systemic barriers and structural factors.
So, Considering the need for gender advancement in STEMM area at the institutional level, the GATI programs are now launched by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Department of Science and Technology (DST) launched the “Women Scientists Scheme (WOS)” during 2002-03.
Under this scheme, women scientists are being encouraged to pursue research in frontier areas of science and engineering, on problems of societal relevance, and to take up S&T-based internships followed by self-employment.
