I am a government servant. So I think I am eligible to answer it.

People of India give importance to govt job because of following reasons

Job security: Any job in the government sector is governed by various rules and regulations which are in favor of employees. Due to that, it is almost difficult to sack a government employee.

Perks available: As a govt employee, u get well-furnished accommodation at a meager amount, LTC every 4years, Govt vehicle for officers, a medical facility for family. Interest-free/subsided interest loans for house building, purchase of a vehicle, etc.

Less work pressure and good work-life balance: only once in blue moon do I have to sit in an office in office after 6 whereas many of my friends who are working in the private sector, sitting in the office up to 8 o clock is a daily routine.

Leaves and holidays: I am working as an officer in Govt of Punjab. We have 10 casual leaves, 15 earned leaves, 6 restricted leaves, 15 medical leaves, 4 half-day leaves on the specific festival,s and almost 40 gazetted holidays apart from Saturday and Sunday. No job in the private sector gives you that much luxury.

This is my opinion, there could be more reason different from person to person.

There are various reasons behind it like job security, handsome salary, reputations and much more reasons depends upon individual choices too.

Government jobs are quite popular in India due to many reasons.

It is a fact that the government officers in India enjoy considerable power without corresponding responsibility.

They can easily (mis)use their power for their personal benefits and no action is taken against them.

If you visit the houses of most top government officers, you would find them having fleet of government cars and servants who are actually taken from other departments and (mis)used for personal work.

There is no such a certain reason for that but handsome salary package, job security, excellent allowance and facilities gives a better reason to a candidate.
