Shalinisharma About AVTS The AVTS has been in existence since 1977 with the goal of improving and updating the skills of serving industrial personnel. The scheme was launched in 1977 by the then-Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of Labour and (now Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship) in collaboration with UNDP/ILO at DGE&T’s 6 Advanced Training Institutes (ATIs) and the 15 state governments’ 16 ITIs. Short-term modular courses of one to six weeks are used to provide training in certain skill areas under the scheme. Customized training tailored to the unique needs of industrial companies are also available. Since September 2007, around 3.5 lakh industrial workers/technicians have used the training facilities of the NSTIs (formerly ATIs). With financial assistance from World Bank, training facilities in additional areas were created at ATIs and the existing training facilities were also strengthened.
