The University Grants Commission will allow 900 more colleges to run online courses for students. The decision was made in order to provide more opportunities for students to learn.
The decision was made in connection with the online education concept of the National Education Policy 2022. With online courses, students will be able to earn degrees remotely.
Institutes Granting Online Degrees
Currently, only a few universities can offer distance degrees online. However, the new order will add an additional 900 stand-alone colleges that have ranked in the top 100 in their subject category twice in the last three NIRF rankings or have a NAAC score of at least 3.26.
Colleges will not require prior approval from UGC, however they will be required to comply with all rules and guidelines issued by UGC.
