Given the increase in the number of female students entering several courses each year at the Ottoman University College, the university administration opened a new centenary dormitory for girls with 500 beds.
Osmania University’s new girls’ hostel was opened by Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. Ravinder. The hostel is located next to the Institute of State Entrepreneurship (IKP). The residence hall, which was built for Rs 37.5 crore with funds from the University and RUSA, has reading rooms, a spacious dining room and a modern kitchen.
The female student dormitory was justified as the university has seen a significant increase in the number of female students entering various colleges. Existing dormitories were overcrowded, hence the initiative, the OU said in a statement. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a separate international standard women’s pool was also held with the support of the Khelo India programme.
