I always wondered how the education quality is being measured. Then on the Internet I came across this- The School Education Quality Index (SEQI), which is used to measure the educational quality in schools throughout India’s states and union territories.
I came to know that the initial edition of the School Education Quality Index (SEQI) has been produced by the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog). I have seen that the level of education in schools varies greatly across the country. According to the NITI Aayog rankings, Kerala has the best performance with 76.6 percent, while Uttar Pradesh has the worst performance with 36.4 percent.
It has some salient features. I am listing a few here:
- NITI Aayog created SEQI to assess the performance of States and Union Territories in the school education sector.
- The School Education Quality Index intends to put an emphasis on results in education policy by providing a platform for states and UTs to assess their strengths and weaknesses and make necessary course corrections or policy interventions.
- The Index aims to make it easier for States and UTs to share knowledge and best practices, in keeping with the NITI Aayog’s goal to cultivate a spirit of competitive and cooperative environment.
- Developed in collaboration with important stakeholders such as the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, the World Bank, and sector specialists.
- The SEQI index is made up of 30 key metrics that evaluate the delivery of high-quality education.
I think government should focus on the loopholes in our education to improve the education quality.
