To guarantee that persons with disabilities (PwD) have smooth access to higher education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has developed “draught comprehensive accessibility guidelines and standards” for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and Universities. The draught guidelines are published on the UGC website, and stakeholders have until March 7, 2022, to provide input and ideas to the commission.
They can give feedback through the UGC’s University Activity Monitoring Portal (UMAP).
Education is the most important primary metric for achieving economic and social mobility, inclusion, and equality, according to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.“ The Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) was launched by the Indian government to ensure equal participation and inclusion of people with disabilities in all activities.” the UGC said.
