The Andhra Pradesh government has drastically limited Mana Badi: Nadu Nedu Phase 2 operations to only 3,199 schools as banks showed little interest in lending money for the ambitious program.
Last August 16, YS Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the second phase of his flagship Mana Badi: Nadu-Nedu’ (Our School Then and Now) program to renovate over 16,368 public schools in the state at a cost of Rs 4,535 crore. But now the Special Chief Secretary (School Education) B. Rajsehar issued an order on 19 February providing for an administrative sanction for the commencement of Nadu-Nedu works in only 3,199 schools in the amount of Rs 2,538.96 crores.
In fact, during a recent review meeting with CM, the Department of School Education authorities stated that they will commence Phase 2 work in 12,680 schools at an estimated cost of over Rs 4,500 crore. This, however, was reported by a high-ranking official of the Department of School Education.
