Months after the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) opened up engineering courses in Indian languages, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is expected to follow suit in the university system.
While regional language courses failed to gain traction at IITs, the AICTE has done so at engineering schools. Approximately 20 engineering universities in ten states now provide Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, and Telugu degrees.
The UGC plans to encourage Indian language courses in universities, similar to what the AICTE has started to do. They want to do that for STEM and other courses as well.
