To join the Indian Air Force (IAF) after completing the 12th grade, you can either join as an officer through the National Defence Academy (NDA) exam or as an airman through the Agnipath scheme. The NDA route requires passing the NDA exam conducted by the UPSC, followed by an interview and medical tests. The Agnipath scheme, also known as Agniveer Vayu, involves a written exam, physical fitness tests, and medical examinations.
Officer Entry (NDA):
Eligibility: Pass 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics for the Flying Branch, or any stream for Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical).
Selection Process:
Written Exam: Conducted by UPSC, consisting of Mathematics and a General Ability Test (GAT).
SSB Interview: A 5-day interview process conducted by the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB).
Medical Examination: Thorough medical check-up to meet physical standards.
Training: Three-year training at the National Defence Academy followed by specialised training at Air Force establishments.
Commissioning: Successful candidates are commissioned as Permanent Commission Officers.
Agniveer Vayu Entry (Agnipath Scheme):
Eligibility: Pass 10+2 in any stream.
Selection Process:
Written Exam: Conducted by the IAF.
Physical Fitness Test: Includes running, push-ups, etc.
Medical Examination: To assess physical fitness.
Service: Four-year service as Agniveer Vayu, with a chance to be selected for the regular cadre based on performance.
