According to CMIE, The unemployment rate in India increased to 7.8% of the total workforce in June from 7.12% in May, the worst in over four decades.The total number of jobs in the country fell by over 1.3 crore from nearly 40.4 crore in May to 39 crore in June, the data showed.

Indian Economy is still an agrarian Economy. So dependency on agriculture for earning livelihood is very obvious but along with unskilled workforce which somewhere contribute in raising digits of unemployment. There are two categories of youths suffering from increased data of Unemployment published by Union Government and the one is-

  1. UNEMPLOYED YOUTH
  2. UNEMPLOYABLE YOUTH

Our Concern should be for both kind of unemployment but with different approaches. Despite of thousands of schemes launched towards skill development where major was SKILL INDIA MISSION/PROGRAMME but there is continuous rise in the digits.
As our Nation is a developing country , its not possible to checkmate this Brobdingnagian situation with self help our promoting start ups.

The major problem is that Government also lacked in earning confidence of youths to believe in their approaches and ideas to tackle this massive quandary.

At the time of Great Depression, some countries took guardian control over economy to tackle unemployment but our nation is moving towards accute privatisation which can never be the solution to control unemployment for a developing, overpopulous countries like ours. India needs to find out a middle path jist MNREGA n other schemes wont b sufficient.

Accute Privatisation will not e a good term but disinvestment may be. I totally agree with you that MNREGA can never be a solution and Capitalism if said a solution, it will need proper education which we are already lacking as a nation or state. Literacy rate of few states are appreciable but on other hand majority of populous states still struggling to make their position in literacy ranking list.

India has not learnt from its past mistakes. It has to strategize step wise instead of skipping the steps just for the sake of political benefits.

Our think Tank NITI AYOG has recently suggested many ides to govt to tackle unemployment and AGNIVEER as a scheme will definitely bring employment to 10x more number of youths. As more as quick the vacancy will create after every 4 years, the more youth will get an opportunity. Same as Agniveer, our govt is planning other things.

So, 10x more people will be unemployed every 4 years after retiring under Agniveer scheme. Tgis will not take India anywhere and this is just a mirage created by government to show people that its working to tackle unemployment…..Economic policy is also business oriented and not people oriented. I dont think none of the steps taken by current government is gonna help tackle unemployment. “BRAIN DRAIN” still seems a feasible option for intellectual youth of the society which has been prevailing since Independence and sadly, there hasn’t been any solution for it from any of our government. I m crestfallen to admit that our “think tank” has also failed to “think effectively” on this matter.

Tina,Although I agree with You on agniveer scheme that this isn’t a long term solution for the runway unemployment and also this is just a copy of US concept of Tour Of Duty which haven’t proved much successful,But there are some benefits too namely- Tax Free service package fund, and skills they will inculcate during their short stint. And 25% of each batch will be enrolled in regular Cadre.
And as far as the Brain drain is concerned, it is a grave situation that direly need to be addressed but if you see in recent years, the degree of exodus is getting down with the improvement in Ease of doing business and the support the govt. is giving to startups. No doubt there’s lot more to improve but we are surely getting on track.

Sorry Krishna but I disagree. You seem over optimist. If we analyze overall, we are in downward progression. Better employment status is one of the factors to evaluate happiness Index of a nation and see where India stands.

I might be an optimist but over optimist would be a stretch. And as I previously agreed that we surely are on a downward progression, but the nation is coping up with the issues amidst all the the things happening worldwide.
And For Happiness Index, We are consistently among the poor performers but the factors considered in calculating happiness index are economic security, quality of work, quality of consumption, leisure time, relationships, environment, and freedom and control among others. And if you’ve read the reports the current downfall in recent years there has been a long-term moderate upward trend in stress, worry, and sadness in most countries and a slight long-term decline in the enjoyment of life in India.
