The Staff Selection Commission holds an open Competitive Examination for recruitment to the posts of Constable (General Duty) in Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Secretariat Security Force (SSF) and Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles. This is the next best exam after SSC CPO (SI) for recruitment to the armed forces of India.

Candidates are advised in their own interest to submit online applications much before the closing date and not to wait till the last date to avoid the possibility of disconnection/ inability or failure to login to the SSC website on account of heavy load on the website during the closing days.
Application Fee: payable: Rs 100/- (Rs one hundred only).
Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee.

Essential educational qualification (as on 1 January year 2)
Matriculation or 10th class pass from a recognized Board/ University.
NOTE : Candidates who have not acquired the essential educational qualification as on 01.08.2018 will not be eligible and need not apply.
Scheme and Pattern
The Examination will be conducted in four tiers as indicated below
Tier-I: Computer Based Examination
Tier-II: Physical Standard Test (PST)/ Physical Endurance Test (PET)
Tier III: Detailed Medical Examination and document verification
Tier 1 (Pre)
Tier-1 will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English language.
Test will be conducted in online mode.
Each question will carry 1 mark and total time allowed will be 90 minutes

Physical Endurance/(Efficiency) Test
Physical endurance test or Physical efficiency test will consist only of a race for both male and female candidates.

NOTE : The Ex-servicemen who will be shortlisted in Computer Based Examination will have to appear in PET/PST stage for recording measurement of height, chest and weight only. PET will not be held for these Ex-servicemen candidates. Further, they will have to qualify medical Examination (DME).

General Medical Guidelines
The purpose of medical standards is to ensure that medically fit candidates are accepted into the CAPFs.
Refusal to undergo medical examination at any stage or absenting/ deserting oneself from the same will render the candidate unfit.
At some stages of medical examination male candidates will require to be examined in nude. Loin cloth is to be permitted except for, when genitalia and perineum is being examined.
The final decision of fitness/ unfitness in weight will be decided by the medical board at the time of medical examination based on the height and age chart on the day of medical examination and as per the height measured by the PST/ PET Board & as per guidelines for the same.
Medical Test (X-Ray) chest-PA view, Haemoglobin, Urine routine/ microscopic examination will be must for all candidates under medical examination.
The candidate must not have knock knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes.
Any surgery conducted between the period of DME & RME for corrective measure of unfitness will not be accepted and be considered as ‘unfit’.

Salary, perks and other benefits
Pay level and grade pay
The candidates who clear the examination and qualify for the post of constable (GD) are all offered the same pay scale irrespective of the armed force they are enlisted in.
The Pay Scale is INR 21700-69100
Allowances
House rent allowance
The house rent allowance given is INR 2538.
Transport allowance
The TA for a newly joined constable is INR 1224
Dearness allowance
This is the cost of living allowance. Currently this is valued at 17% of basic pay.
Dearness Allowance (DA) of Rs. 434 is provided out of the total salary.
Diet allowance/Ration Money
Diet Allowance or Ration money is provided to the Constable (GD) employees to cater to their diet needs. The Diet allowance of Rs 101.5 is provided to SI in Delhi Police. Ration money of Rs.97.85 per head per day is admissible to SI in CISF.

Pension
Pension is based on the amount of money that gets deducted from the salary the the employee every month. This gets rewarded after retirement when the employee gets a handsome amount every month.

FA Constable (GD) aspirant will approximately get INR 23,527 after all deductions and allowances when he joins the force.
