On October 28, 2022, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) warned students not to misguided by the EdTech companies offering online PhD programmes. By releasing a public notice the Commission gives instructions to all Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to follow UGC Regulations. Students are advised to verify the authenticity of Ph.D programmes as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of MPhil, PhD degrees) Regulations 2016, before taking admission.
