Junior Hindi Translator Examination is conducted by the Staff selection commission (SSC) every year for the posts of translators at various levels (Group B, Non gazetted) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India.

Procedure of application

  1. Visit ssc.nic.in

  2. Click Apply

  3. Go to JHT tab

  4. From here, login and register.

  5. Follow the given steps to fill out the basic information and the application form.

  6. Candidates are advised in their own interest to submit online applications much before the closing date and not to wait till the last date to avoid the possibility of disconnection/ inability or failure to login to the SSC website on account of heavy load on the website during the closing +days.

  7. Application Fee: payable: Rs 100/- (Rs one hundred only).

Eligibility and qualifications

Age limit (as on 1 Month Year)

The age limit for the posts is 18-30 years as on the prescribed cutoff date.

Age relaxations

Permissible age relaxation for reserved categories is as follows -

Essential educational qualification (as on 1 Month Year)

For post codes ‘A’ to ‘D’ -

  • Master‟s degree of a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;

OR

  • Master‟s degree of a recognized University in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;

OR

  • Master‟s degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of a examination at the degree level;

OR

  • Master‟s degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;

OR

  • Master‟s Degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as a medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level

OR

  • Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa or TWO years‟ experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertaking.

Scheme and Pattern

The Examination will be conducted in two tiers as indicated below

  1. Tier-I: Computer Based Examination

  2. Tier-II: Descriptive paper

Tier 1

  • Tier-I will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions.

  • Test will be conducted in online mode.

  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

  • Total time allowed will be 2 hours.

Tier 2

  • This will be a descriptive pen and paper type examination which will involve Translation and Essay.

  • Maximum marks for this paper will be 200 and candidates will get a time of 2 hours to write this paper.

Syllabus

Tier 1

The questions will be designed to test the candidates‟ understanding of the languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms and ability to write the languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The questions will be of degree level.

Tier 2 (translation and Essay)

This paper will contain two passages for translation - one passage for translation from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi, and an Essay each in Hindi and English, to test the candidates‟ translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The level of the paper will be consistent with the educational qualifications prescribed.

Allowances

House rent allowance

The house rent allowance is given as a percentage of basic pay depending on the type of city

  • City X – 24%

  • City Y – 16%

  • City Z – 8%

Transport allowance

This allowance is provided for commuting charges of the employee from home to work and vice versa.

  • Cities – INR 3600

  • Other Places – INR 1800

Children Education Allowance

  • Children Education Allowance of Rs. 27000/- per annum is available for children studying class Nursery to class XII.

  • A Hostel subsidy of Rs.81000/- per annum for children studying in the hostel is also available.

Uniform allowance

Every year the officers will get Rs. 10000/ as uniform allowances.

Dearness allowance

This is calculated as 12% of basic pay (after 7th pay commission)

Pension

Pension is based on the amount of money that gets deducted from the salary the the employee every month. This gets rewarded after retirement when the employee gets a handsome amount every month.

I think atleast the introduction part should have the full form of the post instead of just writing JHT. It is easier to understand when someone new to examination comes seeking for information.
