- What is RTI?
RTI stands for Right To Information. It implies that It is the Fundamental Right of every Indian Citizen to seek information from all departments, offices, ministries, and all the other organizations run by the Indian Government or any State Government.
- The objective of the RTI Act
The main objective of the RTI Act is to empower citizens of India, bring Transparency in the working of the Government, and set accountability in corruption. Its aim is to run the democracy of India for the people of India. Bringing transparency in governance makes the Government more accountable to the Governed.
- Information that can be taken through RTI
Here Information means any subject material in any form, any records, memos, advice, documents, emails, circulars, logbooks, press releases, data material in any electronic form, and information related to any private body which is accessible by any public authority by any law being in force.
- Who can Seek Information?
Any Indian citizen can seek information from any central govt. Organization or state govt. organization across the Indian territory.
- How to file an RTI Offline?
To file an RTI offline one just needs to write an application on a blank paper to the P.I.O of the concerned office.
- Fee for an RTI
We have to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 10 for a single RTI either offline or online.
- Time for a reply
The time-bound for an RTI to be replied in 30 days and 48 hours for any information concerning the life and liberty of a person.
- Can I ask for more than one subject matter information in a single RTI?
If an applicant wants to gain information on more than one subject matter, he/she will have to file separate applications. As per the notification from DPAR 2 RTI 2007 dt. 13.02.2007, only the first of the two or more subject matters may be responded to.
- How old information can be asked?
Any citizen can ask for any information irrespective of the year, held by or under the control of any public authority.
