Acceptance of DigiLocker degrees, marksheets as valid documents-UGC urges to varsities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged all varsities and colleges to recognise and accept degrees, marksheets and other documents in DigiLocker accounts as valid documents.
“As you are aware, the National Academic Depository (NAD) is an online warehouse of academic awards (degrees and mark-sheets) submitted by academic institutions in a digital format,” the UGC writes in a letter to universities. It allows students to obtain valid documents and credentials in digital format from their original issuers at any time and from any location without having to travel."
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has approved the UGC’s designation as the certified organisation for implementing NAD as a permanent system without levying any user fees, in collaboration with Digilocker as a single NAD depository.
HEIs can use the Digilocker NAD interface to register and upload their academic awards to NAD.
Once uploaded through the DigiLocker NAD platform by the original issuer, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) Digilocker platform can bring students’ degree marksheets and other documents into the issued documents section in an electronic form. The electronic records in the DigiLocker platform are valid documents under the terms of the Information Technology Act of 2000.
