A scribe is an adult who records what a student says in a number of ways (for example, speech, ASL, braille, or an assistive communication device). The main goal of scribing is to make sure that the student gets access to test information and can respond to it.
Scribe services are needed when a student is unable to write or type or perform manual tasks required for a class, usually due to a physical disability. Disability Services hires scribes to attend classes, tests, and, when necessary, peer tutoring sessions.
