Meghaadhikari The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize for Science and Technology was established in 1957 to honour the late Dr. (Sir) Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’s initial director (CSIR). The awards were established by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research with the goal of recognising excellent Indian work in science and technology. The Prize is given each year for outstanding contributions to science and technology. SSB Prizes, each of the value of Rs 5,00,000 (Rupees five lakh only), are awarded annually for notable and outstanding research, applied or fundamental. Eligibility Criteria Any Indian citizen (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) working in India who is engaged in research in any field of science and technology and is under the age of 45 as of the 31st December of the year preceding the Prize year is eligible. Overseas citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) working in India are also eligible. The Prize is given to a person who, in the opinion of the CSIR, has made notable and significant contributions to human knowledge and progress – both fundamental and applied – in the field of endeavour in which he or she specialises. The Prize is given out based on contributions made predominantly in India in the five years leading up to the year the Prize is given out. (‘Primarily’ means ‘for the most part’ in this context.)
