IGNOU has launched a migration and diaspora programme.
From the January 2022 session onwards, IGNOU will offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Migration and Diaspora (PGDMIDI).
The curriculum will last one year and will be delivered via open and distance learning (ODL).
The program’s major goal is to teach students how to understand and make sense of contemporary issues and concerns in the global movement by using social science knowledge and techniques. The course is designed to assist many stakeholders, including policymakers, in engaging more meaningfully with the reality that is unfolding before them.
The programme contributes to a better understanding of migration processes, the role of diasporas in development, the development-migration nexus, information for policies, planning, and research, various international migration regulations, best practices in migration and diaspora engagement, migrant community human rights issues, and so on.
Professionals working in foreign trade, UN organizations, embassies and external ministries, migrant and diaspora groups, and other fields are eligible to apply.
Both theoretical and project work will be covered in this course.
