Instead of the existing English, Article 343 of the Indian Constitution states that Hindi in Devanagari script is the “Official Language” of the Union. Later, the Official Languages Act of 1963, a constitutional amendment, permitted English to coexist with Hindi in the Indian government indefinitely unless legislation decided otherwise.
Despite popular belief, Hindi is not India’s “National Language.” In truth, the Indian Constitution does not recognize any language as a national language. In my view there are pros and cons, and it should no be made the official language at this point of time. What are your views on this? Please comment.
There are numerous advantages to having English as India’s sole official language.
a) If English is made the official language, future generations of Indians will be able to thrive in science and mathematics and have access to global business possibilities. These poor students will be able to access the same education and possibilities if English is made the national and official language.
b) Understand the World’s Cultures: English is spoken by people from over 150 different nations. As a result, if Indians are fluent in English, they will be able to communicate with anyone in the world via the internet and digital technologies, as well as understand global culture and engage with all major countries.
c) The fact that English is the language of science and technology is well known. You can access Science & Technology books, journals, and even YouTube videos if you have a good command of the English language.
While there are many advantages to adopting English the official language of India, there are also some drawbacks. The following are some essential points:
a) It is a return of imperialism to make English our national or sole official language.
b) Hindi is the most commonly spoken language in India and can be used to integrate the country.
c) The Germans, the French, and the Chinese are all global powers, but they all speak their respective languages. As a result, India may also be a worldwide force without speaking English.
