I myself have struggled a lot scoring good in the reasoning section of bank exams. Then I decided to correct the mistakes I was doing earlier. I followed the following tips and strategy:
a) Start the preparation ahead at least 5 to 6 months, as I think is adequate time.
b) First, try to answer the questions are easy and lass time taking. For e.g. Odd pair, analogy, directions, alphabet series, etc.
c) Syllogisms, inequalities, blood relations, coding-decoding,etc. are among the other categories of questions in the Reasoning section. Candidates who do not have much experience too with the reasoning part should be able to solve these questions because they are easier ones.
d) I think topics of seating arrangements, intricate puzzles, and input-output machines are all time-consuming and difficult to answer. The number of questions from these themes ranges from 10 to 15, and they are to be attempted at the end, depending on how much time is left after you have solved the easier ones.
e) If you still face trouble with the reasoning portion, I think you should start by solving the questions by category. This way you’ll clear the cutoff and score maximum.
