No, computer science or informatics practices are not required for CSE at any IIT. They start from the beginning and teach you everything you need to know.
Let me tell you a little bit about IITM. The CSE department of IIT Madras offers a one-semester course called Introduction to Programming. And this course is applicable to all branches (unless the branch’s department offers a separate course).
We had a fundamental course in my Physics Department called Foundations of Computational Physics, where we learned Python and Mathematica from the ground up. As a result, we skipped Introduction to Programming .
So, regardless of whether your 5th subject was CS, a language, sports education, or another topic, you can always take CSE at any IIT if you have the required JEE Advanced rank.
