Department of Home Affairs and Justice plays a vital role in managing Law and Order Administration, Safety and Security and curbing crime issues, and taking actions on subsequent prosecution thereof.
Applications were invited for the engagement of various categories of law officers in the office of Advocate General, Punjab at Chandigarh, it is hereby informed that the fresh Applications from eligible advocates/candidates are invited for engagement as law officers in the office of Advocate General, Punjab at Chandigarh and Legal Cell, New Delhi, to defend the cases for and on behalf of the State of Punjab.

Qualification Criteria
The Person applying should be
Practicing as an advocate not less than a designated senior advocate or alternatively an advocate having not less than 20 years of standing.
Minimum annual gross income from the profession in the last three years 20,00,000.
Eligibility Conditions
The details of the category of lawyers sought to be engaged, the eligibility and other criteria are as given below
The Applicant shall be
A citizen of India and registered with a Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961;
An advocate who has been practicing in any Court of Law within the jurisdiction of India, and
Should have standing as a practicing advocate for a number of years mentioned against the respective category and should be an income tax payee with minimum gross annual professional income in the last three years as mentioned against each category.
5% posts of Law Officers shall be filled up from amongst the persons who are or have been a member of the Service under the Punjab Prosecution and Litigation (Group A) Service Rules, 2002 in the rank of District Attorney or above.
However, the eligibility condition with regard to minimum standing as a practicing Advocate and annual professional income shall not apply to applicants who retired as Judicial Officers, retired Law Officers of various departments of the Government of Punjab, and retired Law Officers of the Directorate of Prosecution and Litigation, Punjab.
The persons in Service should also get a Certificate from Director, Prosecution that they have no Charge Sheet /disciplinary proceedings /criminal cases pending against them.
Other provisions of The Punjab Law Officers (Engagement) Act 2017 will be applicable.

Documents to be uploaded
A detailed biodata/CV containing the educational qualifications of the applicant (along with copies of such certificates), particulars of previous jobs held/work experience, notable/reported cases argued/handled, panels/assignments previously/currently held.
A covering letter clearly stating to which office the applicant seeks engagement i.e. the office of Advocate General, Punjab at Chandigarh, or the Legal Cell at New Delhi. In the absence of such a statement, it will be deemed that the application Secretaries is for the office of Advocate General, Punjab at Chandigarh;
A statement in such CV as to which category the applicant engagement is sought;
A copy of the sanaat /registration certificate of the applicant with the concerned Bar Council in support of the number of years standing claimed by the applicant.
Copies of the applicant’s Income Tax Returns for the last three years, along with the Computation of Income Statement specifically showing therein the annual gross income from the profession of the Applicant both, duly stamped and certified by a Chartered Accountant. A separate certificate issued by the Chartered Accountant is to also be appended with the application. A format of such a Certificate is attached herewith. In absence of such specific information pertaining to the Applicant’s annual gross income from a profession, it will be presumed that the applicant does not meet the income criteria for consideration under the act.
