About
The National Programme on School Standards and Evaluation (NPSSE) which is alos known as Shaala Sidhdhi is a comprehensive instrument for school evaluation leading to school improvement. It is developed by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) and it aims to enable schools to evaluate their performance in a more focused and strategic manner and facilitate them to make professional judgments for improvement.
Objective
The objective of the programme is to establish and refer to an agreed set of standards and to provide clear pathways for each school for self evaluation, by focusing on key performance domains and their core standards for school evaluation. The structure of the Framework is simple yet flexible and lends itself to both self and external evaluation.
Process of School Self-Evaluation
Building preparedness is an essential prerequisite of the school self-evaluation process. The school should reflect and act upon the following points to prepare itself for the self-evaluation process. NPSSE Guidelines for School Self Evaluation
- The objectives of school self-evaluation and its long-term advantages for school improvement should be discussed amongst all the stakeholders;
- All members of the school should read the framework critically and understand it in true spirit;
- The school should provide opportunities for open and frank discussion;
- The school may consult relevant and mandated policies, government orders, etc. and the initiatives undertaken by the state;
- Transparency and objectivity should be emphasized. The school should undertake the following steps for the self-evaluation process;
