  • IISc-incubated launches India’s 1st biological transport and storage medium

India’s first biological transport and storage medium, is launched by an IISc-incubated startup.

Azooka Labs, a startup incubated by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore’s Society for Innovation and Development, has launched India’s first indigenous biological transport and storage medium for research use – a step toward making India self-reliant in manufacturing media for the transport and preservation of genetic samples, which is a critical part of fighting pandemics.

This medium, called mWRAPR , aids in the preservation of genetic material in a variety of biological samples, including microbiomes, saliva, cells, tissues, blood, bodily fluids, and faecal tubes. According to a press release from Azooka Labs, it is the first molecular transport medium made in India that competes with well-known sample stabilisation and transportation media like Paxgene and RNALater.

the main aim of using the transport medium is to keep the sample as close as possible to its original state.

These medium helps to preserve genetic content in microbiomes, saliva, cells, tissues, blood, bodily fluids, and faecal tubes, among other biological samples. It’s the only molecular transport medium made in India, and it competes with well-known sample stabilisation and transportation media like Paxgene and RNALater.
