India’s first biological transport and storage medium, is launched by an IISc-incubated startup.
Azooka Labs, a startup incubated by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore’s Society for Innovation and Development, has launched India’s first indigenous biological transport and storage medium for research use – a step toward making India self-reliant in manufacturing media for the transport and preservation of genetic samples, which is a critical part of fighting pandemics.
This medium, called mWRAPR , aids in the preservation of genetic material in a variety of biological samples, including microbiomes, saliva, cells, tissues, blood, bodily fluids, and faecal tubes. According to a press release from Azooka Labs, it is the first molecular transport medium made in India that competes with well-known sample stabilisation and transportation media like Paxgene and RNALater.
