The CBSE’s primary function is to give school affiliation. Any school that has been given CBSE affiliation must follow CBSE criteria. These schools must also follow the CBSE-recommended 10 + 2 curriculum of study. In India and worldwide, the CBSE now has around 222511 schools associated with it. Each year, about 200 new schools gain CBSE accreditation.
Types of Schools eligible for CBSE Affiliation:
- Government or Government aided schools
- Schools run by autonomous organisations under the Government like Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Central Tibetan Schools Organization (CTSO), Sainik Schools Society etc.
- Schools run by Government Department directly like Defence, Railways etc.
- Schools managed directly by Public Sector Undertakings or by reputed societies of Public Sector Undertakings under the financial control of such Public Sector Undertakings or by Societies formed by such Undertakings
- Private, unaided schools.
Process of CBSE Affiliation

Before applying, please read the Affiliation Bye Laws carefully. For the following, an online application may be submitted:
Acceptance of the Middle Class Syllabus/Affiliation or Switching to a secondary school level/upgrading or to a senior secondary school level
Additional Subjects, which are relevant to Senior Secondary Schools that are already CBSE affiliated.
Extension of Provisional Affiliation to Secondary/Senior Secondary level in the case of a CBSE affiliated institution.
The affiliation fee must be paid separately by Demand Draft made in the name of the Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education in Delhi.
It is possible to ensure that the school meets the following essential requirements; otherwise, the application is likely to be rejected.
